I’m fortunate to get to interview OGs in the Diabetes Community, and perhaps there’s no one better to hold that title than Gary Scheiner, award-winning CDE , author and founder of Integrated Diabetes Services (@integrated_diabetes_services on Instagram)
An award-winning Certified Diabetes Educator, Masters-level Exercise Physiologist and person with type-1 diabetes since 1985, Gary Scheiner has dedicated his professional life to improving the lives of people with insulin-dependent diabetes. He was named 2014 Diabetes Educator of the year by the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
Gary and I share a special bond outside of Diabetes through Basketball, so if you’re a fan of nerding out over hoops this will be a great episode for you. Last year at the AADE conference, I was the referee of the annual basketball tournament, of which Gary is a mainstay and force to be reckoned with on the court.
Gary is also the author of 6 books about diabetes, and perhaps his most famous title “Think Like A Pancreas” has recently been updated for 2020.
I’m a big fan of Gary the person as well as Gary the caregiver for people with Diabetes, and his insights are extremely inspiring for someone who is interested in the evolution of Diabetes care over the years. Hopefully once all this quarantine is over you’ll be able to run into Gary at any number of Diabetes events where he is a frequent speaker. But until then, I hope you enjoy this interview!
